Who it is for

• Storing and moving photos, videos and documents between computers.
• Backing up data from a laptop or PC.
• A drive for a TV or media player with a small film collection.

Compatibility

Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP and macOS. To use it with macOS, you may need to reformat the drive to a suitable file system.

Why the system shows 298 GB instead of 320 GB

Manufacturers state capacity in decimal units: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. The operating system counts in binary: 1 KB = 1024 bytes, 1 MB = 1024 KB and so on. That is why 320 GB of rated capacity appears as about 298 GB in Windows. It is not a defect or a hidden partition - every HDD and SSD behaves this way.

Do not move the drive while it is running: like any HDD, it is sensitive to shocks. In winter, let the drive sit at room temperature for a few hours after delivery before switching it on, so no condensation forms inside.

How to connect the drive to a Mac or TV and which file system to choose is explained in External hard drive: what it is and how to choose one. Other capacities are in the external hard drives section.
