FAQ
What is the largest hard drive?
The largest production HDDs for data centers already exceed 20 TB in a single 3.5" drive. For home, NAS and CCTV use, 8-16 TB is typical.
What are 8 TB and larger drives for?
NAS units and file servers, large CCTV systems with a deep archive, media servers with a 4K library, backup archives.
How long will 8 TB last for CCTV?
Eight 2 MP H.265 cameras recording 24/7 fill 8 TB in about a month and a half, sixteen cameras in 3 weeks.
What should I check before buying a large drive?
That your motherboard, NAS or recorder supports the capacity, and that it is the SATA version, not SAS. For drives over 2 TB the system must use GPT partitioning.
