FAQ
WD Purple or Seagate SkyHawk?
Both series are built for 24/7 recording and workloads up to 180 TB/year. The differences are in the details: cache, AllFrame technology in the Purple, a data recovery service with the SkyHawk. For a 4-16 camera recorder, both work equally well.
Can I put a regular PC drive in a recorder?
You can, but you should not: desktop drives are rated for 8 hours a day and a lighter workload. Under 24/7 operation they fail more often and can drop frames.
What capacity do I need for 8 cameras?
For eight 2 MP cameras with motion-triggered recording, 4 TB gives roughly 2-4 weeks of footage. For continuous recording or 4-8 MP cameras, choose 6-8 TB.
