Drives for network storage
NAS and RAID need CMR drives with vibration protection for multi-bay enclosures: WD Red Plus and Seagate IronWolf. SMR models rebuild very slowly and may drop out of a RAID array.
All drives are new and SMART-checked before shipping. Nova Poshta delivery across Ukraine in 1-2 days, cash on delivery or card payment.
FAQ
WD Red Plus or Seagate IronWolf?
Both series use CMR and are rated for 24/7 operation in NAS units with up to 8 drives. For a home or office NAS, choose by price at your capacity and by your NAS maker's compatibility list.
How does WD Red differ from WD Red Plus?
The basic WD Red uses SMR at 2-6 TB, while Red Plus uses CMR. For RAID and NAS you need Red Plus or Red Pro.
How much space will the array have?
RAID 1 with two drives gives the capacity of one drive. RAID 5 gives the total minus one drive: four 4 TB drives give about 12 TB. RAID 6 loses two drives.
Does RAID replace a backup?
No. RAID protects against a drive failure, but not against deleted files, ransomware or fire. Also copy important NAS data to an external drive or the cloud.
