Description
The Seagate BarraCuda ST2000DM008 is the most popular choice for a second drive in a home PC. 2 TB, 7200 rpm, 256 MB cache, SATA III. For everyday tasks (installing a game, dumping phone photos, keeping a film library) it is fast and quiet.
Worth knowing before you buy: the BarraCuda 2 TB uses SMR recording. You will not notice it when reading or copying normally, but if the drive is constantly rewritten (torrent client, daily backups over old ones, video recording), speed can drop while it moves data out of its buffer. It is not suited to NAS, RAID or recorders. More in CMR vs SMR.
