Description
The Seagate BarraCuda ST4000DM004 is a 4 TB 3.5" desktop drive and one of the cheapest per terabyte in its class. 5400 rpm, 256 MB cache, SATA III. It uses SMR recording: you will not notice it when reading or copying normally, but under long continuous writes speed can drop while the drive moves data out of its buffer.
So the BarraCuda 4 TB is at its best for write-once storage: game libraries, films, photos, document archives. It is not suited to NAS, RAID or CCTV, and for constant heavy backups a CMR model is a better pick. More in CMR vs SMR.
